Always name the exception you are expecting. A bare except: catches everything, including typos in your own code, which hides bugs:

try:
    total = 10 / int("0")
except ZeroDivisionError:
    print("Can't divide by zero.")
except ValueError:
    print("Not a number.")

You can have several except blocks for different exceptions; the first that matches runs. To handle several the same way, list them in a tuple: except (ValueError, ZeroDivisionError):.

Exception	Typical cause
`ValueError`	right type, wrong value: `int("abc")`
`TypeError`	wrong type: `"2" + 2`
`ZeroDivisionError`	dividing by zero
`IndexError`	list position that doesn't exist
`KeyError`	dictionary key that doesn't exist
`FileNotFoundError`	opening a file that isn't there
