csv.reader gives each row as a list of strings. csv.DictReader is usually nicer: it reads the header and gives each row as a dictionary:

import csv

with open("team.csv", "w") as f:
    f.write('name,house,points\nAda,Raven,92\nAlan,Lion,88\n"Hopper, Grace",Raven,95\n')

with open("team.csv") as f:
    for row in csv.DictReader(f):
        print(row["name"], "has", row["points"], "points")

Notice that "Hopper, Grace" stays one value even though it contains a comma. Every value comes out as a string, so convert numbers with int or float before doing maths.
