Code like if status == "shiped": has a typo that Python will never notice: it's just a string that never matches. An enum (enumeration) defines a fixed set of named constants, so typos become errors and editors can suggest the valid values:

from enum import Enum

class Status(Enum):
    PENDING = "pending"
    SHIPPED = "shipped"
    DELIVERED = "delivered"

order_status = Status.SHIPPED
print(order_status)
print(order_status.value)
print(order_status == Status.SHIPPED)
print([s.name for s in Status])
print(Status("delivered"))

Members are written in capitals by convention, and used as Status.SHIPPED.
.name is the member's name, .value its value.
Status("delivered") looks a member up by value; an invalid value raises ValueError.
You can loop over an enum to get every member.

Enums pair well with data classes: status: Status = Status.PENDING.
