Accessibility
Accessibility statement
For mithian coding (mithian.net/coding). Prepared 21 October 2026.
We want everyone to be able to learn here, including people who use a keyboard instead of a mouse, a screen reader, magnification or high-contrast settings. You should be able to:
- use every page, lesson and exercise with a keyboard alone
- zoom to 400% and use the site on a phone without scrolling sideways (except some wide tables and code)
- switch between light and dark themes, change the code size, and turn off animations in your settings
- follow along with a screen reader: questions, results and errors are announced
How this was tested
The site is designed to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. On 21 October 2026 we tested 27 kinds of page, in both light and dark themes, with the axe-core automated checker against WCAG 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2 A and AA rules, and fixed every problem it found. We also checked keyboard use, focus, target sizes and phone layouts by hand.
Automated tools can't find every problem, and the site hasn't yet been audited by an independent accessibility specialist or tested end to end with every screen reader. Until it has, we describe it as partially compliant.
Things to know
- The code editor uses Tab to indent. To move out of the editor with the keyboard, press Esc then Tab. Ctrl + M switches Tab between indenting and moving focus.
- Code ordering puzzles can be done without dragging: tap or press Enter on a line to move it, and use Alt + arrow keys to reorder.
- Python downloads once (about 12 MB) the first time you run code, which can take a while on a slow connection. After that your browser keeps it.
- Wide tables, such as trace tables and a teacher's checkpoint grid, scroll sideways on small screens. Each one can be scrolled with the keyboard.
- Code is shown as text, never as images, so it can be read aloud, zoomed and copied.
